Driving the Future of Autonomous Shipping: Highlights from Our Panel at ICMASS with ReNEW, AUTOFLEX, and FOREMAST
- 31/10/2024
Proud to share that yesterday we brought together some of the brightest minds in autonomous inland and short-sea shipping for a panel at ICMASS!
Taking the stage to represent the AUTOFLEX HEU Project were Kristoffer Kloch from DFDS and Øyvind Pedersen from Maritime Robotics AS. For FOREMAST, Tomas Ambra from INLECOM and Matko Barisic from ABB participated, while Ann-Sofie Pauwelyn from ZULU Associates represented ReNEW, and Morten Ingebretsen from Kongsberg Maritime spoke on behalf of SEAMLESS.
The discussion was expertly moderated by Odd Erik Mørkrid from SINTEF Ocean.
The panel delved into recent advancements in autonomous shipping technology and the work still needed to advance logistics automation.
Industry partners emphasized the lasting value of commitment in research projects, noting that early-stage product development, strategic networking, increased visibility, and financial backing are essential for sustainable growth and innovation in this sector.
The main takeaway? Panelists agreed that autonomous vessel development must be purposeful, driving practical, business-aligned solutions in maritime logistics.
A big thank you to our panelists, ICMASS for hosting, and the four EU-funded projects whose collaboration made this event possible.
In addition, thanks to Ann-Sofie Pauwelyn, from ZULU Associations, and Håvard Nordahl, SINTEF Ocean, for their presentations:
– Zero emission trough autonomy and modular design
– A novel method for evaluating ship concept performance in transport systems
